# Working with Assessments

Assessments are a multiple-choice exam or test to determine a user's comprehension of material. Assessments are added as course activities and can be mixed in among labs and videos. After completing an assessment, students can review their results, if allowed. In addition, these results can be viewed within the Skillable TMS.

## Overview of Assessments

Assessments are designed in the Skillable TMS with multiple choice questions. These questions can have a single correct answer or multiple correct answers. Students can be allowed to review the assessment after they complete it. Because of this you have the option of adding an explanation for the correct answer(s) for each question and a link to a site with additional information.

## Where Assessments Can Be Used

Assessments can be used for both instructor-led and Self-Paced training. They are added to Courses as Activities. They have options to permit students to only take the assessment one time or it may be open for the student to retake multiple times. Assessments can be set to allow or restrict students from reviewing the results. In addition, you have the option of requiring students to complete the assessment before moving to subsequent activities.

A student sees the assessment in the course activities of their Enrollment or Course Assignment. They use the **Launch** button on the assessment to open it. When an assessment allows retakes, the **Launch** button will read **Retake** on the completed assessment. If retakes are not permitted, the **Launch** button will disappear. If the assessment is allowed to be reviewed, a **Review** button will be displayed on the activity. When a student reviews an assessment, the correct answer is shown bold and underlined in green. The student's answers display as grayed out selections. When an incorrect answer was selected by the student, the answer is underlined in red. An information icon appears to the right for the student to access any website added within the assessment.

## Request Assessments Access

If you are interested in having assessments added to your courses, please submit a Support ticket at [**https://skill.info/support**](https://skill.info/support). Permissions can be added to allow assessments to be created and assessment responses to be viewed. Depending on the content of the courses, we may need to create custom courses for you or you may be able to create courses on your own.

Assessments are used to determine the user's comprehension of materials. Assessments can be created in the TMS as a multiple choice test and then added to courses.

Self-Paced or On-demand training is associated with course assignments or subscriptions. Users are assigned training which can be accessed at any time by the learner at their leisure. Outside guidance or mentorship is often not provided with this type of training.

Bundles together content to then be set up for training through classes, subscriptions, and course assignments. Courses can include labs, videos, SCORM, LTI, external links, assessments, and documents. Courses must be assigned to a Content Provider and a Publishing Group to be available to set up for training.

Activities are configured in the instructions editor and represented in the lab instructions by a replacement token. Activities fall into two broad categories: Questions and Automated.

- Questions are multiple choice or short answer questions.
- Automated Activities interact with the lab environment (Virtual Machine/Container/Cloud Platform).

An enrollment is the student registration for a class. Enrollments have multiple statuses, but only the Enrollment Status of Enrolled gives a student access to class. Within the enrollment the student will access the labs and activities and if set up digital courseware and virtual classroom for their class.

A course assignment delivers self-paced access to a course. A course is assigned to a student giving immediate access to the student. It can be accessed at any time for the duration of the assignment. The assignment duration begins and is billed when it is created.
