# Assigning a Single Subscription Assignment

A subscription assignment gives a user access to multiple courses to take as Self-Paced training. Users can take and retake the courses an unlimited number of times until their Subscription expires. Using subscriptions enables your users to work through the training they want, when they want it, without your staff having to manage individual Course Assignments.

## Assign a Subscription

To assign a subscription, a Subscription Profile must be in place. [Click here](/v1/docs/subscription-training-keys) for information on creating one. The profile acts as a template for assignments, as it supplies the courses and defaults the assignment Duration. After creating the assignment, the user can open their On-Demand subscription from their Current Training page to view the On-Demand Subscription catalog and begin taking training.

Take the following steps to create a single subscription assignment.

1. Open the **Subscription Profile** you wish to assign to the user.
2. Click the **Create Subscription** link, this opens the Create Subscription page with the Subscription Profile filled in.
3. Enter information in the**Basic Information tab**.
  - Beside the **Student** field, select **Choose**; the Choose Student dialog opens.
  - Search for and **select a user**, then click **OK**, adding the user to the assignment.
  - **Starts** field may be revised, it defaults to the current date.
  - **Expires** field cannot be edited, it is automatically set based on Starts field above it and the Duration field on the Subscription Profile.
  - **Target Completion** is an optional field where the expected completion of the subscription assignment can be input. This field may be used by administrators, it does not show to the student and does not control any access.
4. Enter information in the **HTML Description tab**. Optional field to add a custom formatted description. This description only shows on the Subscription Assignment.
5. Enter information in the **Note tab**. Optional field to add a note to the student’s subscription assignment, a title and text must both be added. Notes can only be seen by administrators.
6. Select **Save**.

Users with subscriptions can be found from the Site Administration page, on the Subscriptions tile by selecting Assigned Subscriptions. This opens the Find Subscriptions page where you may add filters and output options for the search results you desire.

Self-Paced or On-demand training is associated with course assignments or subscriptions. Users are assigned training which can be accessed at any time by the learner at their leisure. Outside guidance or mentorship is often not provided with this type of training.

A subscription is an assignment to an individual for access to a set of courses for a set amount of time for self-paced access. Students can choose which courses to access from the subscription, which then open as a course assignment, and they can access the courses at any time for the duration of the subscription.

A course assignment delivers self-paced access to a course. A course is assigned to a student giving immediate access to the student. It can be accessed at any time for the duration of the assignment. The assignment duration begins and is billed when it is created.

A subscription profile is a bundle of courses made available to students for a set amount of time for self-paced access. The profile sets the template for each subscription assigned to a student.

The expected amount of time it will take a user to complete the lab. After setting the duration, the maximum duration of the lab will be set to 150% of the duration.
