# Bulk Skill Tagging for Lab Profiles

## Overview

Manually assigning skills to lab profiles is time-consuming and prone to mistakes, especially at scale. Bulk Skill Tagging streamlines this process by allowing you to efficiently assign skills to many lab profiles at once using a CSV upload.

## Use Cases for Bulk Skill Tagging

Bulk Skill Tagging helps teams efficiently update large sets of lab profiles without manually editing each one. Use this feature when you need to assign, update, or audit skills at scale.

### Who Benefits from Bulk Skill Tagging

This feature is especially helpful for roles that manage high volumes of content or require consistent skill alignment across labs, including:

- Lab administrators
- Content managers
- Training coordinators

### When to Use Bulk Skill Tagging

Use Bulk Skill Tagging in these scenarios:

| Scenario | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Importing or onboarding large lab catalogs** | For example, when importing a new set of 200 labs, export the lab profiles, annotate **Skill_IDs**, upload the CSV, and correct only the five error rows reported. |
| **Performing periodic audits or compliance checks** | Filter for labs missing skills (for example, during quarterly reviews), export them, apply the appropriate tags, and upload updates in bulk. |
| **Updating labs in bulk due to curriculum or framework changes** | Apply new or updated **Skill_IDs** across many lab profiles efficiently and consistently. |
| **Making mass updates to skill assignments** | Shift learning objectives or align labs with revised training goals. |

## Best Practices for Bulk Skill Tagging

- **Always use the exported template** from the platform to ensure correct columns and formatting.
- **Validate Skill_IDs** against the latest skill framework before uploading.
- **Review error reports** after an upload. Correct only the failed rows and re-upload just those entries, saving time and reducing risk.
- **Keep backups** of both your original and corrected CSV files for audit purposes.
- **Use filters** in the lab profile viewer to target only the profiles that need tags.

## Use Bulk Skill Tagging in Studio

1. **Access Bulk Tag Skills** Log in to Skillable Studio and navigate to **Admin > Skills > Bulk Tag Skills**.

2. **Filter and export lab profiles**
  1. Use filters (e.g., by organization and*Has Skills: No*) to select relevant lab profiles.
  2. Click **Export Lab Profiles (.csv)** to download the template.

3. **Download and reference skill frameworks** Download the relevant skill framework as a CSV to look up valid **Skill_IDs**.

4. **Annotate the exported CSV** Fill in the **Skill_IDs** column for each lab profile, using comma-separated values to assign multiple skills.

5. **Upload your CSV**

Note

Adding skills via CSV upload is **additive only**. The system adds the skills listed but does **not**overwrite or remove existing skills for any lab profile.
  1. In Studio, use the **Import Tagged Lab Profile List** section to click **Choose Completed Lab Profile List**.
  2. Upload your completed CSV file and then click **Import Tagged Lab Profile List**. The system validates your file and processes the updates.

6. **Review validation results** If errors occur, click **Download Error Report** to download the error report CSV. Only rows with issues are listed in this report.

7. **Correct and re-upload error rows** Fix the errors in the error report CSV and re-upload just those rows.

Tip

You do **not**need to re-upload the full CSV from step 4. Instead, upload only the corrected rows to save time and avoid reprocessing successful updates.
