Enabling Class Activities

You can set up Courses to allow instructors to assign specific Activities to each student during a Class, enabling a student to see and access their assigned activities while other students may see and access different activities.

Best Practices for Setting up Course Activities

Setting up course activities to permit instructors to assign them during class is helpful in several scenarios:

• It can help the instructor to control access to activities keeping students from working ahead in the materials.
• It allows multiple assessments to be created, added to a course, and then assigned to different students.
• It should be used in classes using a shared lab environment for cybersecurity allowing each team access to different activities.

Overview of Course Activities

A course can have activities set up to be assigned to students by an instructor during class. Before the activity is assigned it can only be seen by the instructor, once assigned only the students assigned can see or launch it. Any activities not set to be manually assigned automatically display to all students.

Newly assigned activities display to students within a few seconds, while removed assignments may take up to 25 seconds to be expunged. If the student launched the activity prior to removal, a message displays, stating: Sorry, you don’t currently have access to this activity. Please see instructor.

Setting manual class activity assignment for students is a different from the assisting class, but the activity is still visible to students.

Steps to enable manual class activity assignment

Some parameters involved in set up include that the course must be set up for Instructor-led training and the activity availability must be Everyone before it can be set to assign manually to students; all activity types can be set to manual assignment. Once the course is used to create a class, operations managers and instructors can manage the activities to assign or unassign them to one or more students within the class.

Course set up

1. From Site Administration on the Courses tile, select Find Courses to open the search page.
2. Search for and select the course to open the course profile.
3. Select Edit.
4. On the Basic Information tab, verify the Available Instructor-Led box is checked, this enables class settings on the course activities.
5. Open the Activities tab.
6. Verify or set the course activity has Availability set to Everyone
7. Verify or set the course activity has Available Instructor-Led checked.
8. Check the check box for Assign to Students Manually to enable the feature.
9. Set up all activities you want to have assigned by the instructor.
10. Save.
