Creating courses with numerous settings can be a complex task. To simplify the process, we offer two efficient methods to replicate an existing Course, allowing you to reuse its comprehensive settings, Activities, and fields. You can either duplicate a specific course directly or designate a course as a template for future use. Both methods ensure a seamless transfer of all course components to your new course.
Best Practices for Using Templates
When employing templates, consider the following guidelines to enhance clarity and efficiency:
• Name your templates descriptively to reflect the incorporated settings and intended use.
• For Organizations consistently creating courses with identical settings, invest time in establishing a comprehensive template. This approach can simplify creating a new course as it only requires naming and populating the new course with specific activities.
• If your courses fall into distinct categories sharing common elements like images, Publishing Groups, or activities, create separate templates for each category to maintain Organization and distinction.
Copy a Course
Sometimes, you may need to create a unique course that shares similarities with an existing one, yet you don’t want to use the existing course as a template. In such instances, copying the course is a practical solution.
To copy a course and tailor it to your needs:
Find and open the course you intend to replicate.
Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save As, located adjacent to the Save button.
The Save As dialog will display the original course name with “(Copy)” appended. This is where you can assign a new name to the course.
Click Save to proceed with the copy.
**Adjust the course settings **and content as needed.
Save your changes to finalize the new course.
Creating a Course Template
To establish a course template, choose an existing course or create a new one with the desired settings:
Access the course editing mode.
In the Basic Information section, tick the Use as template checkbox.
Save your changes to commit the new course.
Once a course is marked as a template, it still functions as a course to be used for training and is also included in the template list for new course creation. Additionally, you can locate templates using the Is Template filter on the Find Courses page.
Utilizing a Course Template
After setting a course as a template, it becomes readily available for crafting new courses.
Follow these steps to utilize a template effectively:
On the Site Administration page, click **Create Course **within the Courses tile to access the creation page.
Click Open Templates in the top right corner.
Input any required details and click Search.
Choose the appropriate template from the search results.
Click OK to proceed.
Make any necessary modifications.
Complete your new course by clicking Save.
