# Creating Classes

Classes are used to schedule meeting times and give students access to Course Activities for instructor-led training.

## Create a Class

To create a class:

1. On the **Admin** menu in the **Classes** group, select **Create Class**. This opens up the Create Class page.

On the **Basic Information** section:

1. To add a Course, select **Choose** next to **Course**.
2. In the **Choose Course** dialog, input part of the course **Name** and select **Search**.
3. Select the course from the search results and select **OK**. This brings you back to the Create Class page with the course added.
4. Change the **Display Name**, if needed.
5. If you are creating a class for an organization other than the one you belong to, select **Show Advanced Settings** on the upper right side and verify the **Organization** is correct.
6. Change the **Minimum Students** to the number of students the organization needs to run the class.
7. Set the **Maximum Students** field to the total number of students that can be enrolled.
8. Select the appropriate status from the **Status** dropdown.
9. Modify other fields as needed.

### Configure Session Times

Expand the **Session Times** section.

**Add Multiple Session Times**.

1. The **# Sessions** field will default to match the number of training days set up on the course you selected for this class. Verify this is the correct number of days.
2. For **Days**, select the pattern of days your class will run, e.g. **Mon**, **Wed**, **Fri** or **Mon**, **Tues**, **Wed**, **Thurs**, **Fri**. Sessions will be added or skipped based on the pattern you select.
3. Use the **First Day** field to choose the first day of class.
4. Modify the **Start Time** and **End Time** as needed. The default time zone used is configured on the Organization that the class belongs to. If you would like to override the Organization time zone, specify the time zone of the class using the Time Zone drop-down menu.
5. Select **OK**.

Duration Affects Billing

The number and Duration of the class sessions are for scheduling only. The Duration of the course affects the billing of the class based on 8-hour training days. If the course has a different duration than your sessions, do one of the following: 1) Select the course with the correct duration, if available, 2) if you own the course, duplicate it and change the duration to reflect training days that are longer or shorter than 8 hours, or 3) if you do not own the course, open a support ticket immediately to request assistance to ensure your class is billed correctly.

### Select the Delivery Method

Expand the **Delivery** section.

1. If this class will be delivered in person only, ensure **Delivery Type** is set to **Physical**.
  1. Select the **Add Classroom** link and select **Search**.
  2. Select the classroom(s) and then select **OK**.
2. If this class will be delivered online only, change **Delivery Type** to **Virtual**.
3. If this class will be delivered both in person and online, change **Delivery Type** to **Physical and Virtual** and add your classroom as above.

### Add an Instructor

Expand the **Instructors** section.

1. Select **Add Instructor**.
2. Input part of the **Last Name** and **First Name** of the instructor and select **Search**. Select the instructor from the search results. If you have more than one instructor, search for and select the other instructors.
3. Once all the instructors for the class are selected, select **OK**.

Finally, select **Save** to create the class.

Other Sections

The other sections (Visibility, Payment, and HTML Description) can be changed later.

Once the class is created the Skillable TMS creates a template by retaining all of your selections except for the class dates, this is to help you create additional classes more quickly.

A class is a scheduled instructor-led event with a start and end time/date. Typically, these include lectures and hands on activities such as labs.

Courses can include labs, videos, SCORM, LTI, external links, assessments, and documents. Courses must be assigned to a Content Provider and a Publishing Group to be available to set up for training.

Activities are configured in the instructions editor and represented in the lab instructions by a replacement token. Activities fall into two broad categories: Questions and Automated.

- Questions are multiple choice or short answer questions.
- Automated Activities interact with the lab environment (Virtual Machine/Container/Cloud Platform).
