Generate AI Practice Scenarios in a Lab

Prev Next

Overview

As a learner, some labs include an interactive AI text box that allows you to generate additional hands-on scenarios during an active lab session. By entering a description of a task you want to practice, the system generates new instructions directly within the lab environment.

You can also choose a learning style (Learn, Practice, or Challenge) to control how guided or complex the generated scenario will be. These generated scenarios allow you to reinforce skills introduced in the lab, explore variations of a task, or challenge yourself with additional practice beyond the structured lab steps.

The practice generator appears as a text box in the Lab Instructions with a Style dropdown and a text field to describe the scenario you want to practice.

Generate a Practice Scenario

To generate a new scenario:

  1. Within your lab, locate the AI Practice Generator section of the lab instructions.

This section includes an interactive text field and may contain guidance on what types of scenarios you can request.

  2. Enter a description of the scenario you want to practice (e.g., Create a scenario where I deploy a virtual machine using Azure CLI).

  3. On the right, select a learning style from the Style dropdown:

    1. Learn: Provides guided steps with additional explanation.

    2. Practice: Provides structured tasks for reinforcing a skill.

    3. Challenge: Provides more complex scenarios with minimal guidance.

  4. Submit your prompt.

A new practice scenario appears directly within the lab instructions. You can complete the generated tasks inside the active lab environment.

Not sure what to practice?

If you’re unsure what scenario to generate, click Suggest topics below the interactive text field.

AI Practice Generator will generate a list of potential practice topics. You can then choose one of the suggested prompts to automatically generate a scenario.

Tips for Better Practice Scenarios

To get the most useful results:

  • Be specific in your prompt

  • Use Practice to reinforce skills introduced in the lab

  • Use Challenge to test your understanding

  • Use Learn when you want more guided instructions

  • Remember that Practice Generator is designed to extend the lab, not replace the existing tasks.

Usage Considerations

Lab authors can set limits on AI Practice Generator usage for each lab. If the usage limit for a lab is reached, new scenarios are temporarily unavailable for generation.

Summary

Practice Generator allows you to extend structured labs with additional hands-on challenges. By generating your own scenarios, you can deepen your understanding, practice variations of a task, and continue learning beyond a lab’s predefined steps.
