# How Do I Associate A VM Profile With A Lab Profile?

Virtual Machines (VMs) are configured in the Lab Profile settings.

For a virtual machine to be used in a launched lab, the Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) must be in a Virtual Machine Profile that is associated with the Lab Profile. This association is done from within the Lab Profile page.

## Configure Lab Profile

1. On the **Site Administration** under **Lab Profiles**, select **Find Lab Profiles**.
2. On the **Find Lab Profiles** page in the **Series Name** field, input the series name and select **Search**.
3. In the search results, select the name of the **Lab Profile** you want.
4. On the **Lab Profile** page, select the **Edit** link and then select the **Virtual Machines** tab.
5. Select the Add **Virtual Machine** link and in the **Choose Virtual Machine Profile** dialog box.
6. Select the **Search** button. All of the Virtual Machine Profiles that are associated with that series will be listed.
7. Select all of the **Virtual Machine Profile(s)** that will be used in this **Lab Profile** and select **OK**.
8. Make any changes to the default choices for each machine as needed such as **Startup delay**.
9. If there is more than one VM, make sure the first VM the user will need to interact with is marked as the **Default selection**, and ensure it is set to be **visible to student** then select **Save**.

A virtual machine is the virtualization or emulation of a computer system. Virtual machines are based on computer architectures and provide the functionality of a physical computer.

Labs in Skillable Studio are housed in a Lab Profile. The Lab Profile contains the information about the configurable settings and the virtual machines that make up a lab. For a Lab Profile to be published it must be part of a Lab Series.

Virtual Hard Disk is a file format representing a virtual hard disk drive. They may contain what is found on a physical HDD, such as disk partitions and a file system, which in turn can contain files and folders.

A Virtual Machine profile represents the hardware configuration of a virtual machine. Base settings would include, memory, processor, network adapters and storage configuration. The actual settings available are dependent on the fabric the Virtual Machine would be running on.
