Integrated Browser
Skillable's Integrated Browser fabric is designed to provide a seamless, lightweight, and fast experience for lab users.
If a lab only requires an internet browser, then integrated browser is the best option, eliminating the need for a virtual machine while providing fast, secure access to lab users.
This is accomplished by hosting a specified browser in a container, which reduces resource costs and unlocks many of the features users love about Skillable labs, like TypeText, session recording, and monitoring.
Required Permissions
In order to use the Skillable Integrated browser for labs, the fabric must be enabled for an organization by Skillable. Please reach out to Skillable Support or a Customer Service Representative to enable this fabric.
The below permissions are required to configure or create a new container to host the Skillable integrated browser. They are not required to use the feature, however, as containers will be provided and can be selected based on browser type and version.
In addition, in order to configure and enable a container to be used as an integrated browser, the following permissions are required:
Container - Edit (org)
Can Set Integrated Browser on Container
Optionally, if a new container image is required, a user would need the following permissions:
Container - Create (org)
Container - Create/View (org)
Container - Delete (org)
Setup a lab to use Integrated Browser
Once an organization has the integrated browser fabric enabled, a few more steps must be completed to begin using integrated browser in a lab.
Create or Choose a Container
Lab profiles can be updated to use the integrated browser in a lab.
When Use Integrated Browser is selected on the lab profile Advanced tab, a container must be selected to host the browser.
A number of containers are available to use, and more will be added upon request.
The container selected will determine the browser, browser version, and any plugins that are installed on the browser.
Set the Start Page
Once a lab profile has been updated to use integrated browser, and a container has been chosen, a start page should be set.
This will open the browser to the specified URL once the lab is launched.
To set the start page URL, on the Basic Information tab of the lab profile, check Override Start Page
Then, enter the URL for the desired start page in the text box provided.
