The Studio Homepage is the centralized dashboard in Skillable Studio for managing your labs, lab instances, Lab Series, and Templates. It replaces the previous user dashboard and brings the most common authoring tasks — launching, editing, cloning, and finding content — directly to the page, without requiring you to navigate to individual profile pages.
This article is for Lab Developers, authors, and administrators who use Studio Home as their starting point in Skillable Studio.
Who Can Use the Studio Homepage
The Studio Homepage is available to all Skillable Studio users. The tabs, cards, and quick actions you see reflect your organization's permissions — actions your account does not have access to do not appear on the cards.

Getting Started
Log in to Skillable Studio. The Studio Homepage opens by default.
To return to the homepage from any other page, select the Skillable Studio logo in the top-left of the page.
Use the tabs at the top of the page to switch between Lab Profiles, Lab Instances, Lab Series, and Templates.
Use the Find and Create menus in the top-right of the page to search for existing content or create new content.
Page Overview
The Studio Homepage is organized into three areas:
Welcome header — Personalized greeting with your name and a Lab Advisor button that opens the Lab Advisor page.
Find and Create menus — Top-right buttons for locating existing content or starting the creation flow for new content.
Content tabs — A tabbed view of your Lab Profiles, lab Instances, Lab Series, and Templates, each with its own sort, filter, and pagination controls.
The Four Tabs
Lab Profiles
The Lab Profiles tab is the default view when you open the Studio Homepage. It shows the Lab Profiles you have access to and that you have modified.
From a Lab Profile card, you can:
Open the profile — Select the card to navigate to the Lab Profile details page.
Launch — Launch the lab directly from the card. If the Lab Profile has multiple instruction sets, choose the set you want before launching.
Edit Instructions — Open the instruction editor without navigating to the profile page, choosing the instruction set if there are multiple.
Clone — Duplicate the profile in one of three ways, each requiring a different permission:
Clone — Create a copy of the profile. Requires Lab Profile edit and create permissions.
Save as New Lab Profile — Requires Lab Profile create permission.
Save as Organization Template — Requires publish to organization template gallery permission.
Edit Profile — Open the full profile settings. Requires Lab Profile edit permission.
Delete — Remove the profile. A confirmation dialog appears before deletion. Requires Lab Profile delete permission.
Favorite — Select the star icon to pin the profile to the top of your list.
Quick links on each card take you directly to the related Series Name or Organization Name.
Note: Actions that your account does not have permission to perform do not appear on the card.
Lab Instances
The Lab Instances tab shows active and recent lab instances across your organization.
From the Lab Instances tab, you can:
Toggle between your instances and all organization instances — Use the Mine toggle to switch between your own instances and those across your organization.
Details — Select the details icon to navigate to the Lab Instance details page.
Monitor — Select the monitor icon, when available, to view the instance in monitoring mode. (Requires special permission to monitor lab instances.)
Each instance card displays the following fields:
Field | Description |
|---|---|
Lab Profile | The Lab Profile this instance belongs to. |
Instance ID | The unique identifier for the instance. |
Series | The Lab Series the lab is part of, if any. |
Instruction Set | The instruction set the instance is using. |
Start Time | The timestamp of when the lab was launched. |
Run Time | Total elapsed time since the instance was first started. Run Time is not reset when the lab is saved and resumed. |
Last Activity | The timestamp of the most recent recorded activity. |
State | The current status of the instance, such as running, saved, or complete. |
Selecting the Lab Profile Name, Series Name, Student Name, or Instruction Set on a card navigates you directly to that related record.
Lab Series
The Lab Series tab shows the Lab Series you have access to.
From a Lab Series card, you can:
Edit — Open the series editor.
Clone — Create a copy of the series.
Delete — Remove the series with confirmation.
Favorite — Pin the series to the top of your list.
Navigate to related entities — Quick links on each card take you to the series’ Organization and any associated labs.
Templates
The Templates tab shows templates available to your organization, along with any public templates you have favorited. Templates are sorted by most recently used — the most recent date a Lab Profile was created from the template.
From a Template card, you can:
Create Lab from Template — Start a new Lab Profile using the template's configuration as a starting point.
Preview — View the template details before using it.
Edit — Open the template's full settings.
Delete — Remove the template with confirmation.
Favorite — Pin the template to the top of your list.
Navigate to related entities — Links on each card take you to the related series or organization.
Each template card displays the template name and number, series, organization, virtualization platform, created date, and last modified date.
Find and Create Menus
The top-right of the Studio Homepage contains two menus that replace the previous path of navigating to the Admin page to search.
The Find menu opens search pages for:
Lab Profiles
Lab Series
Lab Instances
VM Profiles
Users
Bug Reports
The Create menu starts the creation flow for:
A new Lab Profile
A new Lab Series
A VM Profile
Removable Media
Script Template
Note: Options that require additional permissions do not appear if your account does not have access.
Sorting, Filtering, and Pagination
Each tab includes its own sorting, filtering, and pagination controls in the top-right of the list view.
Control | Description |
|---|---|
Sort by | Sort the list by available fields, such as Name, Created, Updated, or Organization. |
Ascending / Descending | Toggle the sort direction. |
Filters | Open the filter panel to narrow results by status, organization, series, platform, or other available criteria. |
Rows per page | Display 10, 20, 50, or 100 rows per page. |
Note: Sort, filter, and rows-per-page preferences are independent for each tab and persist when you switch tabs or navigate away from and return to the Studio Homepage.
Tip: Favorites always appear at the top of the list, regardless of the sort order you apply. Your chosen sort applies within the favorites group and within the non-favorites group separately.
Common Scenarios
Launch a Lab Profile you have been working on recently
Open the Studio Homepage. The Lab Profiles tab shows your most recently updated labs at the top. Locate the lab and select the launch icon on the card. If the lab has multiple instruction sets, select the one you want before confirming.
Set Up a New Lab Profile from an Existing Template
Open the Templates tab. The most recently used templates appear at the top. Locate the template you want and select Use Template. The new Lab Profile setup opens with the template's platform, network configuration, and profile metadata already applied.
Check On a Running Lab Instance
Open the Lab Instances tab. Use the Mine toggle to filter to only your own instances, or leave it off to see all instances across your organization. Locate the instance and select the monitor icon to view it. Select the Lab Profile Name on the card to navigate to the related profile.
Organize Your Most-Used Labs for Faster Access
On the Lab Profiles, Lab Series, or Templates tab, select the Favorite’s star icon on the cards you use most often. Those items move to the top of the list and remain there when you sort, filter, or return to the page in a later session.
Troubleshooting
The homepage shows no labs, series, or templates
Verify that your account belongs to an organization in Skillable Studio and that you have been assigned at least one Lab Profile. If your organization was recently created, it may take a few minutes for records to appear.
A quick action is missing from a card
Quick actions reflect your permissions. If an action you expect is not visible, contact your platform administrator to confirm that your role has access to the operation.
A lab fails to launch
Check the State field on the instance card. If the lab is already running, use the launch icon on the Lab Instances tab to reconnect to the existing instance rather than launching a new one. If the launch fails with an error message, note the message and contact Skillable support.
A delete or clone action did not complete
Refresh the page and check whether the action completed before retrying. Submitting the action twice can create duplicate records.
Notes and Limitations
Old bookmarks automatically redirect. If you had bookmarked the previous user dashboard URL, it now redirects to the Studio Homepage. No action is required.
Lab Advisor (Skillable's lab health checker) appears in the header as a summary indicator. Detailed Lab Advisor diagnostics require navigating to the individual Lab Profile.
Tab layout is fixed. You cannot rearrange tabs, add custom widgets, or change the card layout.
Universal search is not part of the homepage. Use the Find menu for targeted search pages.
