TMS Overview
Skillable Training Management System (TMS) is our integrated LMS platform for delivering hands-on labs, courseware, and virtual training experiences to learners. It brings together learner and instructor management, class scheduling, automated notifications, and progress tracking in a single interface so you can run training programs end-to-end.
Learners and instructors can launch all course content—including labs, courseware, and virtual meeting links—from one web page. Instructors can monitor learner labs in real time, provide support during class sessions, and track learner progress as they complete their assignments. TMS also supports assessments, certificates, and Badges so you can measure learning outcomes and recognize Achievements.
Training delivery in the TMS follows a clear workflow with flexible delivery options. You create a course to hold your labs and learning materials, determine your delivery mechanism by choosing instructor-led or self-paced training, and then deliver your training by enrolling learners manually, through training keys, or via integrations like Skillable Connect. This structure helps you scale training while keeping your content organized and accessible.

Core Components of TMS
Understanding the building blocks of TMS helps you design and deliver training more efficiently.
Course: The primary container for all learning content, including labs, courseware, and supporting materials like Activities.
Lab: The hands-on environment where learners practice skills. Labs are added to courses.
Class: An instructor-led, scheduled session with set dates and times. Instructors and learners meet at a defined time to work through course content and labs.
Course assignment: Self-paced access granted to a single learner to one course for on-demand training.
Subscription: Grant a learner timed access to multiple courses. Each launched course becomes an individual course assignment.
Training key: An access code learners use to self-register for classes, course assignments, or subscriptions.
Publishing group: Determines which organizations or learners can access a course.
Labs are added into courses. Courses are delivered through classes, course assignments, or subscriptions. Training keys, Skillable Connect, and the Skillable API offer flexible enrollment and automation options.
Publish Labs with TMS
If you are creating your own labs, publish your lab with Skillable TMS and then add it to a course for learners. If you are purchasing content from a provider, you’ll be granted access to the provider’s contracted courses.
Create a Course
A course acts as the central container for all content you plan to deliver. After creating a course, add your labs, courseware, and supporting materials.
To make the course available for delivery, you must associate it with a publishing group. Publishing Groups ensure the correct organizations, instructors, or learners have access to the course.
Once the course is created and published, it can be delivered through instructor-led or self-paced methods.
Determine the Delivery Mechanism
After the course is published, choose how you want learners to access it. TMS supports two delivery methods, both using the same underlying course content.
Instructor-Led Delivery (Class)
A class is a scheduled session where instructors and students meet at a specific date and time. Instructors assign a course to the class to provide access to labs and courseware. Instructors can access labs as as soon as they are assigned to teach. Learners gain access at the start of the class and retain access through the post-class window (typically 180 days).
With instructor-led learning, instructors can monitor learner lab sessions and progress in real time.
Self-Paced Delivery (Course Assignment)
Self-paced delivery uses course assignments or subscriptions.
Course assignments give one learner access to one course. Subscriptions provide timed access to multiple courses, where each launched course becomes a course assignment. Learners can be manually assigned self-paced training, or they can self-register using training keys. The access duration defaults to 180 days but is customizable.
Deliver Your Training
After selecting the delivery method, choose how learners are enrolled:
Manual assignment: Add learners individually or in bulk to classes, course assignments, or subscriptions.
Training keys: Allow learners to self-register for classes, assignments, or subscriptions with Course Assignment Training Keys.
Skillable Connect TMS API: Automate enrollment and integrate training delivery with external systems.
Instructors can monitor learner lab activity during classes. Administrators can review course usage and learner progress through TMS reporting tools.
Summary
Skillable TMS is a unified platform that simplifies how you deliver hands-on learning at scale. It brings together labs, course content, scheduling, and learner management so you can create consistent, high-quality training experiences with less effort. Courses act as flexible containers for labs and supporting materials, and can be delivered through instructor-led classes or self-paced assignments and subscriptions. With built-in monitoring, automated access options, and seamless integration through Skillable Connect, TMS helps you streamline administration, stay in control of learner progress, and deliver training that drives real skill development.
