Overview
Skillable’s AI capabilities support lab authoring, automation and learner engagement across the Skillable platform. The AI suite includes:
Lab authoring tools for script generation, instructional drafting, environment provisioning and automated validation
Learner-facing tools that provide dynamic guidance, chat-based interaction and on-demand practice
Flexible model options, including Skillable-provided models and Bring Your Own Model (BYOM) support
Together, these capabilities enable organizations to streamline lab development while delivering interactive, adaptive learning experiences.
Skillable AI Model Options and Usage
Skillable’s AI capabilities support both the Skillable pre-integrated models and the Bring Your Own Model (BYOM):
Skillable pre-integrated model: Included in the Skillable AI base package. Usage is tracked according to packaging and is subject to defined usage limits.
BYOM: Allows your organization to connect its own AI models. No Skillable usage limits apply and you have more flexibility over custom model control. However, your organization is responsible for third-party model costs.
All Skillable AI capabilities support model selection when configured.
The Skillable AI base package includes access to the full suite of Skillable AI capabilities. Usage add-ons are available for customers using Skillable pre-integrated models beyond the included usage limits. Usage is tracked when using Skillable-hosted models. BYOM usage is not billed by Skillable.
Supported models at launch include Claude Opus, Claude Sonnet, OpenAI GPT Chat Completions, OpenAI GPT Response API, Llama Maverick and Llama Scout, with more coming soon.
Skillable AI Model Lifecycle Policy
AI Model Support Policy
AI models have increasingly short operational lifecycles, typically ranging from 12 to 18 months before deprecation or retirement.
To maintain service continuity, Skillable will perform the following for provided models:
Monitor supported AI models
Identify recommended replacements
Validate replacement models prior to migration
Provide customer notification before migration, delivered in-app within Studio
Provide temporary validation environments where practical
Skillable will target a minimum of one month's notice before model transitions, although vendor-driven changes may occasionally reduce this timeline.
Customers remain responsible for validating their lab content against replacement models before migration.
Customers remain responsible for full lifecycle management if they bring their own models.

Skillable’s AI capabilities provide embedded tools that support both Lab Authors and learners. These features reduce manual effort, accelerate lab development, and enable dynamic, interactive learning experiences.

Instruction Assistant
Lab Authoring Tool
Instruction Assistant helps authors draft and refine lab instructions directly within the Instructions Editor. Use it to generate new instructional content, improve clarity and structure, reduce required Markdown knowledge, and maintain consistency across labs.
Instruction Assistant supports prompt-based generation and editing workflows.

Practice Assistant
Learner-Led Tool
Practice Assistant enables learners to create additional hands-on scenarios during an active lab session. Learners provide prompts and the system generates new practice instructions within the current environment. Use Practice Assistant to reinforce skills, encourage experimentation and extend learning beyond structured tasks.

Script Assistant
Lab Authoring Tool
Script Assistant uses generative AI to help create automated activity scripts. Use it to generate scripted or scored lab activities, Life Cycle Actions and Automated Activity scripts, reduce manual scripting effort, lower the technical barrier for automation and accelerate build time.

Vision Activity
Lab Authoring Tool
Vision Activity uses computer vision to validate what a learner sees and does on screen. Use it when you need reliable automated assessment of user actions in environments where traditional script-based checks aren't available. Authors build a reusable evaluation baseline once and Vision Activity applies it against every learner's submission, evaluating work against the criteria the author defined.

Mentor Toolkit Framework
Leaner-Led Tool
Mentor Toolkit Framework lets you connect your own AI model to power an in-lab conversational guide. Once configured, it sits alongside the lab environment, sees what the learner is working on and provides context-aware guidance. It functions as an in-lab instructor, proctor and help desk, answering questions, suggesting next steps and diagnosing issues in real time.

Cloud Deployment Template Assistant
Lab Authoring Tool
Cloud Deployment Template Assistant builds Azure Resource Templates for Skillable labs through an iterative chat workflow. Describe what your lab environment needs to provision and it produces a complete, deploy-ready ARM or Bicep template that follows Skillable best practices and respects lab constraints. Built-in cost guardrails cap resource sizes and block high-risk resource types.

Cloud Access Control Policy Assistant
Lab Authoring Tool
Cloud Access Control Policy Assistant derives access control policies directly from your lab instructions. It reads the steps, identifies which Azure resources learners need to create and builds the allow-list automatically, so authors don't have to configure policies by hand.

Dynamic Teaching inserts structured tags (ai teach, ai show, ai quiz, ai resources) that automatically generate formatted instructional content, including teaching text, step-by-step instructions, quiz questions, or resource suggestions.
Use this feature to rapidly author or expand instructional content while maintaining structure and consistency.
