How Can I See The Quality Of My Connection To My Lab?

Prev Next

If you are experiencing issues in your lab such as, slow response time, lag in typing, or disconnections you should check the quality of your internet connection to the lab servers. This information will let you know if there is something happening with your connection and will assist the Support Team in identifying a possible cause.

Best Practices for Understanding Your Connection

  1. Understanding Your Connection: Familiarize yourself with the connection bars in the lab interface. These bars provide real-time information about the network latency between your browser and the server hosting the Virtual Machines.

  2. Identifying Issues: Be aware of potential issues such as slow response time, lag in typing, or disconnections. These could indicate a problem with your connection to the lab servers.

  3. Taking Action: If you experience any of the above issues, don't ignore them. Instead, use the information provided by the connection bars to diagnose and address the problem.

  4. Leveraging the Feature: Make the most of this feature by understanding how to interpret the information it provides and how to apply that knowledge to improve your connection quality.

Check The Quality Of My Connection To My Lab

Just to the left of the title of the lab, you can see a visual representation using the ubiquitous “how many bars you got?” graphic of your connection at that very moment. It will look like several bars in increasing size. The more bars that are lit, the better your connection is at that moment. You can hover over it to see a summary of your connection quality and latency.

View Lab Latency

You can view your lab latency (measured in milliseconds) by hovering your mouse cursor over the connection bars in the lab.

Delay

Connection Status

0 - 100 milliseconds

Excellent (4 bars)

100 - 250 milliseconds

Good (3 bars)

250 - 500 milliseconds

OK (2 bars)

500 milliseconds or higher

Poor (1 bars)

This measures the network latency between your browser and the server where the VMs are hosted. This is the last latency value received from the your machine. Large latency values may cause your lab to seem sluggish or even non-responsive. The issue may be with your network, internet provider, the overall internet health, or the lab host. If any of the conditions persist, contact your help desk and provide them with this detailed information along with the Support Information on the Support tab.

Troubleshooting Internet Connectivity Performance

Here are some best practices for checking the quality of your internet connection:

  1. Use an Online Speed Test:
Our online speed test will measure your internet connection's speed and quality. They test your ping at three stages: idle, during download, and during upload. This can help you understand how your connection's quality is affected by different activities.

  2. Check Network Connectivity:
Checking network connectivity is crucial. Your network should be fast, not prone to dropping packets, and should never lose connectivity.

  3. Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength:
If you're using Wi-Fi, check the signal strength on your device. The more filled the Wi-Fi symbol is, the stronger the connection.
